What causes CAD?
CAD is caused by atherosclerosis; a build-up of vulnerable soft plaque within the coronary arteries. The plaque can lead to a heart attack in one of two ways. Either the build-up slows or stops the heart, or it causes arterial inflammation which weakens the vessel walls and makes the affected artery burst.

People can also suffer from sudden cardiac death or cardiac tissue death because the decreased blood flow to the heart leaves it deprived of oxygen.
